News:

As well as individual household monitoring, Verifier has a range of other security and monitoring products ….

  • Through their remote CCTV Monitoring, Verifier can also significantly reduce the need for physical guarding and thus the human error element and the risk of guard intimidation at company and factory premises is eliminated.

  • Verifier is employed by several estates to monitor their perimeter electric fences. Verifier alerts clients as to the reason for the fence alarm being triggered ie:  when branches fall across them and to ensure they remain intact. Depending on how the clients CCTV installation is configured Verifier can immediately alert the authorities if anyone even approaches the fence.

  • Verifier can remotely monitor fire and disaster risks at factory and company premises, and can call in the required authority before the fire or flood gets out of control. This service could prevent significant financial loss and lost production.

  • Verifier has developed “Store Minder” a product, where they can monitor all the workings of the store; from doors opening, to voiding on till sales, to employee etiquette and traffic in the store. This is incredibly useful in eliminating dishonest elements in the employees as every transaction can be called up and is monitored.

Security Tips:

With the recent increase in driveway attacks, we want to remind you of some tips to help with the security….

  • Change your pattern! Approach your house from different sides, take different routes to and from work, vary the time.

  • If followed, do NOT turn into your driveway – go immediately to the nearest police station or at least a well-lit well-attended public place such as a petrol station. Try to memorize the number plate and report it immediately to the police.

  • Trust your gut – if you have a feeling you are being followed, that someone might be lurking in your property, or that something “just isn’t right” TRUST that feeling. Call in your security service provider to escort you home.

  • Service your gate regularly

Some more Gate Safety Tips:

  • Never pull into your driveway before your gates are fully open – rather pull over and then open the gates. You don’t want to be stuck if someone pulls up behind you.

  • Keep foliage well under control around your gate, as criminals tend to hide behind bushes etc. waiting for you to arrive.

  • Keep your gate area well-lit.

  • Be aware of people in the vicinity as you arrive home.

  • Always close the gate promptly and make sure it closes completely.

  • Maintain your security gates regularly – a broken ‘security’ gate is next to useless.

  •  Maintain your front sliding gate and ensure that it closes as quickly as possible to avoid people following you in.

Local Business works with Neighbourhood Watches to Create a Safer Valley

Residents in the Constantia Valley can sleep slightly safer at night thanks to the efforts of the newly formed Constantia Valley Watches Association (CVWA) and the support of local off-site CCTV security monitoring company, Verifier, with the implementation of Visec License Plate Recognition (LPR) and overview cameras being installed throughout these areas.

The CVWA –being BKM Watch, Constantia Watch, Constantia Hills Watch, Kirstenhof Watch, Nova Constantia Watch, Plumstead Watch, Southfield Watch and the Tokai Watch – is chaired by Constantia Valley Watch Chairman Mike Voortman. Verifier has assisted – at no charge- in the piloting of the rollout of CCTV projects across the Valley – which has delivered many successes, from criminals being caught in the Greenbelts, to housebreaking preventions being effected with the LPR system, and even arrests of syndicates.

“The seeds of this association were sown a couple of years ago when Constantia Watch invited Clem Sunter to provide a strategy planning session for Constantia’s Crime watches,” says Mike. “The fruitful strategy session provided the seeding of what has expanded to the CVWA through a joint initiative of the Community Policing Forums of Diepriver, Constantia and Kirstenhof. The Watches are collectively forming a formidable force in the Valley to combat and prevent crime – alongside the City and SAPS as our partners.”

Activities are currently run from the BKM Watch and Constantia Watch offices, and the initiative is gaining momentum, with the Constantia Valley Wine Estates, Constantia Village Shopping Centre, and many other businesses already on-board and contributing financially to the wellbeing of the community.

The Valley has already raised and spent approximately R 1 million plus for implementation of the LPR cameras and the Control Room, which are both up and running – with additional camera points being added continuously as further funds are raised. The CVWA area covers approximately 20 000 properties and is already proving to be a solid working model of community co-operation.

CCTV MONITORING NOT JUST A GREAT SECURITY DEVICE!

When thinking about getting off-site CCTV monitoring for your business, most people have it in mind as a preventative security measure and as a source of proof in legal disputes where a crime has taken place. However, their uses and functions to a business are far more diverse than previously thought making them more cost effective than just as a security device.

Off-site monitoring company, Verifier, was recently called in by a client to assist with a labour dispute they were having with some of their staff members. “One of our business park clients had a wage dispute with about 50 of their staff members. We were asked to monitor the situation, as the unhappy workers were congregating at the gates. After keeping an eye on the situation for a while we noticed a large group of workers pushing past the booms and alerted the relevant authorities,” says Verifier Director, Mike Voortman. “Through the live footage we were able to assist in preventing any harm to people and property.”

Last year Verifier were also able to assist monitored clients when a water pipe burst in a factory over a weekend, helping to prevent too much damage from occurring; and were able to assist another client with a fire that had broken out in one of their factories, helping to get the fire under control before it was able to spread and cause more damage.

CCTV off-site monitoring is also able to take the traditional security company home “escorts” to a new level. Instead of  having one of the security company guards accompany you into your house when arriving home late at night, now you can have the CCTV cameras watching as you arrive home, keeping a look out for things happening around your house and even ensuring  that you are safe inside and that no-one has followed you in.

“On a more humorous note  for things happening around your house and even ensuring you are safe inside ensuring no-one has followed you in. e e the Caaa client’s dog went missing – the client had looked absolutely everywhere for it, posters on wall, SPCA, SAPS, the whole story. Verifier received a video loss signal from the client’s site, and dispatched the client’s technician to look into the matter. On opening the guardhouse, the technician found that the dog had somehow been locked inside and had disturbed cabling – causing the alarm, and in effect engineering its own rescue,” says Mike.

CCTV MONITORING HAS HELPED TO BRING DOWN CRIME IN CONSTANTIA

CCTV MONITORING HAS HELPED TO BRING DOWN CRIME IN CONSTANTIA

CCTV Monitoring for the past 3 years around Constantia, an upmarket Cape Town suburb and previously a high crime area, has dramatically helped bring down crime incidents within the area. Off-site CCTV Monitoring Company, Verifier, has assisted the Constantia Neighbourhood Watch and surrounding areas set up and monitor a residents’ donated CCTV Network. The network covers numerous greenbelt choke points, major street intersections and various smaller road networks, as well as License Place Recognition (LPR) camera points at all of the entrances to the area, checking all number plates entering and leaving the area. The systems used include advanced Video Analytics cameras, as well as more conventional CCTV cameras – specifications being matched to the requirements.

These points are monitored 24/7 and are used to prevent crime, as well as to assist in guiding Armed Response service providers and SAPS to where crimes are in progress and investigations are underway. This forms an integral part of the crime fighting system in the Valley where Verifier is on the radio network linking SAPS, Resident Patrollers and Service Providers, who respond together as required. Instant alert systems also are in place for serious incidents, community incidents and mobilization of assistance for fires or any other civil requirements.

“The camera points have lead to numerous arrests, and more importantly, incident preventions,” says Verifier Director, Mike Voortman. “Gangs have been detected moving through the greenbelts late at night with the ensuing arrests, robberies have been averted, and footage has provided SAPS with evidence leading to syndicate arrests.”

OFF-SITE CCTV MONITORING INCREASING FOR RESIDENTIAL SECURITY ESTATES

Security and safety from crime has become a very real consideration for households throughout SA. This has led to a significant increase in the number of security residential estates nationwide, as families perceive this to be a more proactive measure to maintain their perception of safety and security. Many of these estates are now having to do away with their traditional thinking regarding security and their offerings to their home-owners; and look to new technology in the fight against crime.

Off-site CCTV monitoring has seen a rapid growth in this market over the past 12 months. “ “29We are monitoring an increasing number of up market security estates,” says Mike Voortman, Director of Verifier Off-site CCTV Monitoring. “We have been monitoring Silverhurst Estate in Constantia for some time now; and have been able to assist them with dramatically reducing their risk of perimeter incursions, as well as reducing their guarding costs by offering virtual guarding solutions, thereby having a situation where numbers of patrolling guards are reduced on site.

Some estates have installed state-of-the-art analytic systems capable of specialised detection such as Beau Constantia and Steenberg Golf Estate. Offsite monitoring is often seen as adding value in a way that conventional guarding does not, in that no on-site control room is required, therefore no CCTV controllers are required and perimeter guarding is eliminated, leaving you only needing access control guards, this leads to savings in Capex and monthly security costs, ever after equipment costs have been factored in. “One of the major benefits that estates have found using our off-site CCTV system, is that we are able to prevent collusion between criminals and security staff due to our remote location,” says Mike. “Through our system, and systems like ours, we are able to remotely check in on Access Control Guards, especially after hours, to ensure that they are doing their job. We are able to future proof the estates perimeter, where conventional prevention has often failed, allowing for peaceful estate living – the way estates were designed to be.”

MAKING THE OLD BAKERY SHOPPING CENTRE SAFER FOR ALL

Off-site monitoring service and security company – Verifier – has, in a short period of time, been able to assist their client – The Old Bakery Shopping Centre, Lakeside, with lowering their crime incidence levels and saving them a significant amount on their monthly security spend.

Despite an after hours guarding service on site, the Old Bakery Shopping Centre tenants were experiencing regular break-ins after hours, with a guard being attacked and subdued in one of the incidents.

The centre installed an 8 channel DVR and associated infra red and dome cameras linked to a Paradox panel and outdoor passives. This system is armed after hours, and Verifier remotely monitors any onsite activity, therefore eliminating the need for guards on site after hours.

Tenants and daytime security have been supplied with long range panic remotes enabling them to activate a silent panic during trading hours if required, which Verifier can monitor and control. Interactive electronic site-mapping is used as a tool to guide the Verifier Controller and they can activate panics to the clients armed response company.

IN ADDITION TO the cost savings that Verifier’s off-site monitoring system has elicited and perhaps more importantly it has helped to bring the crime and incident’s level down.

With improved onsite security, collusion and other human performance related issues have been eliminated.

The whole site is “virtually” guarded whilst armed for activations, eliminating the need for inefficient guard patrolling.

Tenants and patrons safety has been enhanced – with visual escorts for openings and closings.

“Verifier has been monitoring The Old Bakery since January 2010. Not only have we been able to cut down on our security costs but we have had a marked improvement in the level of security we are able to offer our tenants through Verifier’s wonderful monitoring service. A big thanks to Mike and his team!!” says Robin Frew, owner of The Old Bakery Shopping Centre.

Verifier is an Independent off-site monitoring service, which was originally started when a dire need arose to help the local community where co-owner, Mike Voortman, was neighbourhood watch chairman. The company has grown considerably and recently added Management and Market Research Solutions services to their already very successful security monitoring services.
